Roosters pair charged with assault during NRL clash

A NSW court has sentenced the two former Broncos and NSW Waratahs players to eight months’ jail and ordered them to pay $21,000 in costs.

Former Sydney Roosters fullback Shaun Kenny-Dowall, 24, and NSW Waratahs prop George Smith, 30, appeared before the courts on Wednesday and face 15 months’ jail and $12,500 costs.

Both players are alleged to have attacked ex-Waratahs player Matthew Walker during a match last year, which was pre-banned.

The men were fined a total of $22,000 and suspended for 18 months by the NRL’s chief executive, Stephen Conroy, on May 12.
