Kansas City Chiefs free safety Eric Berry said Thursday he’s under contract for 2013.

“Absolutely,” Berry said in response to a question about whether he’d be willing to negotiate for a new deal in the short term. “It’s nothing that I’m thinking about right now.”

Berry’s presence at free safety for 2013 will increase the Chiefs defense as the team works to get back to Super Bowl 50. He’s played 10 starts there.

The Chiefs are likely to start Berry as the nickel corner opposite Marcus Peters.

Peters has the ability to play on either side of the defense, but the Chiefs want to keep him on the outside on some of the nickel packages.

Berry has a career interception total of four and has played all but eight games, but he’s a proven commodity for someone who was a first-round pick in 2009.

The Dallas Cowboys won’t make the playoffs until 2014.

For Dallas, with Barry Church, Orlando Scandrick, Barry Church and Rod Marinelli, that’s a pretty good unit right now.

But they need help along the defensive line. They’ve allowed 10 sacks over their last three games.

Rookie defensive lineman Mario Williams did not practice Thursday because of the concussion he suffered in Week 2.

The 6-foot-2, 311-pound Williams is just 20 years old. He had a huge week in the Cowboys’ Week 5 win over the Oakland Raiders and posted two sacks. He added a pass breakup, an interception return for a touchdown and two tackles.

Williams has played two seasons at defnatyasastra.comensive tackle for the Cowboys.

The best bet for Williams, however, could come when he’s healthy. If Williams continues his great play in 2013, he’s a strong candidate to play defensive tackle in the near future.

The second biggest surprise of the day, according to the ESPN analysts, could be tight end 우리카지노Zach Miller’s addition to the lineup at safety.
